Meet Anita Castillo

Meet Anita Castillo, the heart behind Sunflower Tamale Company 🌻
Born and raised in South Austin, Anita grew up surrounded by the smells of her grandma Bonnie’s delicious cooking. Grandma Bonnie and her daughter Phyllis made tamales for their family by hand, crafting each one with patience, care, love, and connection. While living in TN, Anita founded Sisterhood of the Tamale with her friend Deb Luna Lane, a tamale company that sold tamales at the Nashville Farmers Market bringing a bit of TX taste to TN. Anita has learned in her years as a tamalera that every tamale carries a story, one of family, warmth, and tradition.

Today, Anita honors three generations of tamaleras through Sunflower Tamale Company, where tradition meets a gourmet twist! Her handcrafted, gluten-free vegetarian tamalitos and tamale poppers are made in small batches with fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and plenty of heart.

At Sunflower Tamale Company, innovation meets masa magic! 🌽✨
Our Tamale Poppers are a new fun, bite-sized creation packed with cheeses, veggies, spices, and a burst of flavor, a modern twist on a timeless favorite.

You’ll find us soon at local farmers markets, spreading warmth, flavor, and a little sunshine with every bite.
